I was invited to a very nice event celebrating fairy tales from around the world. I was given Puss in Boots as my story to represent. The challenge was the transformation of the Ogre into a lion, then into a mouse. I really liked the sand, clean and strong. Really liked vietnam also, nice light food and friendly people.
We were fortunate enough to have a cold snap in december for a few weeks. I had wanted to do this for a long time. We own an inflatable igloo that we use to make snow igloos, but I wanted to try to make an ice igloo by spraying water on it overnight. It was quite a task but the result was beautiful. It got to about 3/4″ thick when I decided to deflate the balloon. Simple LED light for the red glow.
I participated again this year in the Canadian Open Sand Sculpting Championship. I teamed up with a Russian friend Dmitry Klimenko. He is a very talented sculptor. The theme was Things with Wings.

I teamed up with Marielle Heessels from the Netherlands for this competition . The theme this year was Heroes and Vilains. We decided to go for a split representation of the iconic Batman and The Joker. One behind nothing without the other.
1st place and sculptors choice.
I was invited to participate in the amazing sand event of Tottori in Japan where Germany was celebrated this year. I was given the task of representing Martin Luther and the Protestant Reform.
The museum is huge and the caliber of sculptors very inspiring. The piece is over 20′ long by 13’high.
We have been thinking for a few years now about building a big igloo as part of the JackFrost Winter Festival. We finally managed to get ourselves a 15′ diameter inflatable that worked really well. It provided a great sheltered space from noise and weather and the night time visual was magical.
