I teamed up with Marielle Heessels from the Netherlands for this competition . The theme this year was Heroes and Vilains. We decided to go for a split representation of the iconic Batman and The Joker. One behind nothing without the other.
1st place and sculptors choice.
I was invited to participate in the amazing sand event of Tottori in Japan where Germany was celebrated this year. I was given the task of representing Martin Luther and the Protestant Reform.
The museum is huge and the caliber of sculptors very inspiring. The piece is over 20′ long by 13’high.
We have been thinking for a few years now about building a big igloo as part of the JackFrost Winter Festival. We finally managed to get ourselves a 15′ diameter inflatable that worked really well. It provided a great sheltered space from noise and weather and the night time visual was magical.
November was a busy month working in Belgium creating “The Land of The Hobs” in beautiful Brugge. We had a chance to play with big crystal clear blocks of ice made locally. I really enjoy working on these big events, where the common efforts of over 20 sculptors come together in a span of 3 weeks to turn ice into a wonderland.
This bed scene was sculpted by myself, Peter Vogelaar and Denis Klein.
